President Karzai Discusses Ways to Tackle Air Pollution

January 03, 2008

President Karzai called a meeting on Saturday to discuss with authorities concerned on ways to tackle worsening air pollution in the capital. He instructed the officials to adopt immediate measures to reduce air filth.

Among participants was Mostafa Zahir, head of Afghanistan Environmental Protection Agency, who explained different relevant aspects and blamed the overcrowded number of vehicles in poor conditions, and the low quality fuel they consume, plus increasing use of fuel-run power generators as major sources of air pollution in Kabul. President Karzai Meets with Pakistan Chief of Army Staff

President Karzai met Friday with Gen. Ashfaq Kayani, Pakistani Chief of Army Staff, who was in Kabul to lead the Pakistani delegation to attend the 25th meeting of the Tripartite Commission composed of representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan and the International Forces. [Read Full story]

 

President Karzai Speaks on the Phone with President Rahmon of Tajikistan

Kabul, Arg: H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Thursday talked on the phone with H.E. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan.  

During the conversation, President Rahmon agreed to President Karzai’s request of Tajikistan to allow for humanitarian supplies to be transported through Tajik territory to Darwaz district of Badakhshan in Afghanistan, as the difficult road conditions coupled with recent heavy snowfalls have made the reach to the remote district impossible through Afghanistan itself. President Karzai Receives French Minister of Defense

December 31, 2008

President Karzai met Tuesday with French Defense Minister, Herve Morin in Gulkhana Palace in Kabul.

Several issues of importance including the situation in Afghanistan and the region, the ongoing counterterrorism efforts, enhanced Afghan-France ties as well as continued French contribution to the efforts for security and reconstruction in Afghanistan were discussed in the meeting. President Karzai Condemns Terrorist Attack in Parwan

Kabul, Arg: H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned the terrorist attack which killed two civilians and injured 18 others in Charikar, the Provincial Capital of Parwan Province.

President Karzai Condemns the Rocket Attacks in Kabul

December 28, 2008

Arg.Kabul: H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned the rocket attacks in Kabul which killed three teenage sisters, calling it an unforgivable crime. 

One of the two rockets fired on Kabul city in the early hours of Saturday night crashed a house in the southern part of the city killing 3 teenage sisters and injuring 4 others. [Read Full story]

 

President Karzai Condemns the Terror Attack in Khost

December 28, 2008

Arg.Kabul: H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, condemned the terrorist attack in Khost province that left 6 dead and 30 more wounded.

A suicide bomber killed six people, including 4 children, and wounded 30 others in the Ismail Khil district of Khost province on Sunday. [Read Full story]
