June 25, 2012 - President Hamid Karzai made a telephone call this evening to the new Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi to congratulate him on his victory in the recent elections.
President Karzai told President Morsi that he was happy to call him and to congratulate on behalf of the Afghan people his election as the new President of Egypt.
Hailing his victory in the elections, President Karzai said, “I am sure it is a good news to the people of Egypt and for the fulfillment of the aspirations for future.”
Pointing to the very long relations that have existed between the two countries, President Karzai said Afghanistan and Egypt enjoyed long and historical relations and reminded that Egypt has been a country
where many Afghan scholars have graduated from its well-known Al Azhar University.
The President once again expressed his best wishes to the new President and happiness to the people of Egypt and prayed for the peace and stability of the entire Ummah.
President Morsi thanked President Karzai for his call and his congratulations and wished that the relations between the two countries could further expand during his tenure in office.
In a separate phone conversation, President Karzai also congratulated the new Pakistan Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf on his election to Office.
President Karzai wished the new Prime Minister success and extended to him a formal invitation to visit Afghanistan at his earliest convenience.
Prime Minister Ashraf thanked President Karzai for his call and accepted with thanks his invitation to visit Afghanistan.
