July 14, 2012 - President Hamid Karzai strongly condemns the suicide bombing that killed and injured many innocent people among them Ahmad Khan Samangani, a member of the Parliament and General Mohammad Khan, provincial director NDS in the province of Samangan.
Latest reports indicate that 17 people were killed and about 43 others were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a wedding ceremony of Representative Samangani’s daughter on Saturday morning in the provincial capital Aybak. The wounded include Mohammad Eshaq Rahguzar, a member of the Parliament, Sayd Ahmad Sameh, police commander for 606 Ansar Regional Command and Sayd Eqbal Munib, the former governor of Sar-e-Pul province.
Denouncing the attack in the strongest possible terms, President Karzai said the enemies of Afghanistan once again targeted innocent civilians and a Mujahid, who through his efforts had played a crucial role in forging national unity in the country.
The President assigned a delegation led by Rahmatullah Nazari, deputy Attorney General and consists of representatives from the Ministry of Interior, NDS and the IDLG to launch an all-out investigation into the terrorist attack.
The delegation is responsible to condole with the families and relatives of the victims and report back on their findings to the President.
The President also telephoned to personally express condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for a quick recovery of all those injured in the attack.
