President Karzai Meets British Secretary of State for Defense

September 13, 2o12- President Hamid Karzai met on Thursday with Philip Hammond, British Secretary of State for Defense to discuss issues of mutual interest.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed various issues including the insider attacks and ways to prevent them, equipping and strengthening of Afghan National Army, Britain’s continued partnership, the Afghan peace process and Pakistan’s cooperation with Afghanistan to this end.
According to another report, ahead of the meeting with Secretary Hammond, President Karzai had an interview with a British media on a Post-2014 situation in Afghanistan, in a part of which he is quoted as saying, “Well, I have no concerns in the sense that when the international forces leave Afghanistan, Afghanistan will be in a better shape and a better place and if the international forces leave Afghanistan in a manner that they continue to support Afghanistan, that they continue to support the Afghan forces, continue to support the Afghan government and continue to play positive in regard to the unity of the Afghan people and if they continue to be mindful of the circumstances which brought Afghanistan to where it is today, Afghanistan will be better and safe.”
