President Karzai Meets Japan’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan

Tadamichi Yamamoto Japan’s Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan called on President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday in the Palace.

Issues discussed in the meeting included talks on the regional situation and enhancement of bilateral relations.

Mr. Yamamoto said expanded economic interaction between Afghanistan and the countries in the region could smoothen the ground for peace and stability.

Voicing support to an Afghan-led peace and reintegration process, he reaffirmed his country’s continued commitment to Afghanistan and said Japan would continue to stand by the people.

The President thanked Japan for all its contributions to Afghanistan and urged that “it was a common goal of us all to have an Afghanistan, where all of its citizens can live in peace and which can have strong and friendly ties with the region and the world.”
