Judicial Meeting Assesses Progress by Special Committee for Transfer of Bagram Prison

April 21, 2012- The regular judicial meeting chaired by President Hamid Karzai assessed the progress made by the Special Committee for Transfer of the Bagram Prison.
During the meeting held in the Presidential Palace Saturday afternoon, General Barekzai Commander of the Bagram Detention Center presented his progress report.
Commander Barekzai said the Committee set up for the prison and to review cases of Bagram detainees, has officially started operating.
General Barekzai also shared recommendations with the meeting for further improving the transfer process.
After the briefing and presentation, Commander Barekzai said that the Committee is to pursue its work seriously, assess the cases carefully and if necessary, the number of judges and prosecutors designated for the review would increase.
President Karzai instructed General Barekzai who leads the Committee to attend and report judicial meetings regularly from now onward.
The President instructed the Ministry of Defense to follow its responsibilities and accelerate the process as well as stressed that any delay in this respect would not be acceptable and those responsible must be questioned.
