April 27, 2012 - President Karzai was speaking at a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Mujahedeen’s victory, where he said Afghan people were yet to achieve the goals of Jihad that were freedom, peace, security, progress and prosperity in Afghanistan.

In a ceremony organized in the Presidential Palace, the President said, “it is an honor to gather today to celebrate the victory of Jihad and remember the sacrifices, martyrdom and devotions people proudly made for this end.”

The President said some of the objectives sought by Jihad had been achieved, while efforts were being made to reach those left. “I hope that the Afghan nation can be able to live in peace with itself and with others and that its children can build their country with their own muscles and without dependence on others. Luckily, the Afghan nation has been moving with strong steps toward that goal.”

The ceremony was attended by many including the first Vice-president, Speakers of the both Houses of Parliament, Jihadi Leaders, Members of the Cabinet, Advisor Ministers, Chief Justice, the Attorney General, and Head of the Peace Council, Head of the Constitutional Oversight Commission and several other senior government and non-government officials.
