President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was received by Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of Republic of Singapore in Istana Palace on Friday.
President Keng Yam expressed delight over visit of President Ghani to Singapore, calling it a positive move for enhancing Afghan-Singaporean relations and cooperation. He added that he would gain further information on situation of and prevailing opportunities in Afghanistan.
He expressed that such visits of high state delegations will contribute to exchange of experiences and fostering cooperation.
President Ghani expressed happiness over development in Singapore, praising helpful experiences and technical know-how of the Singaporean people in terms of management and leadership.
President Ghani said that despite the fact that the war imposed on the Afghan people has vitiated some of our opportunities, Afghanistan still possesses ample investment opportunities which will be utilized in the light of technical expertise, skills and experiences of the international partners.
President Ghani described terrorism and smuggling of narcotics as a threat to the security, stability and development of the region and world, underscoring collective efforts of world countries to uproot this menace.
President Ghani said that Afghanistan wants friendly relations with Singapore on the grounds of bilateral national interests, citing improvement of these ties as one of his visit purposes to Singapore.
President Keng Yam stated that Singapore wants to enhance friendly relations with Afghanistan. He added that economic and social cooperation should be nurtured among countries in addition to cooperative efforts waged against terrorism and extremism.
He expressed that Singapore will extend cooperation to Afghanistan in fields of education, good governance and capacity-building. He added that there is no single formula for problem-solving and that effective ways can be figured out as a result of continuous and collective cooperation.
President Ghani thanked President of Singapore for assisting Afghanistan in various areas, adding that Afghanistan and Singapore will hold more consultative meetings on cooperation and exchange of ideas in the future.
