The President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani arrived home last night after having attended the 17th summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization which took place in Astana, Kazakhstan on 8-9 June.
President Ghani met with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at the sidelines of the SCO Summit, Friday afternoon.
On behalf of the people and government of India, PM Modi expressed his condolences to President Ghani over the recent terror attacks in Afghanistan. He commended the strong will of the National Unity Government and said that the Afghan Government under President Ghani has made significant progress in its functioning and services to the people.
The two leaders discussed several topics especially those pertaining to regional security and stability. They stressed on fostering closer bilateral cooperation.
On the Kabul Process Conference, Prime Minister Modi said that the mentioned conference was successfully convened. He supported such conferences led and hosted by the Afghan Government. He also added that India is ready to; in coordination with its allies particularly the US assist Afghanistan in establishing peace and stability.
President Ghani thanked the Prime Minister of India for condoling with the Afghan Government and people and described India as a friend of Afghanistan. The President appreciated continued support and cooperation of the Indian government with the Afghan Government and people. He also thanked the Indian government for supporting the Kabul Process.
The two sides also emphasized expanding and bolstering up bilateral ties and cooperation in different fields.
