President Ashraf Ghani attended a ceremony, where Afghanistan Railway Authority and INKON KZ Company of Kazakhstan signed the contract on construction of the first phase, section four of Khwaf-Herat Railway Project, today morning at the Presidential Palace.
The project is a 43 Km railroad that will be accomplished in 16 months at cost of $58.5 million, funded by the government of Afghanistan. The railroad will traverse Ghorian, Zenda Jan and Enjeel districts and reach to Rabat Paryan district in Herat province.
The Khwaf-Herat railway project is implemented within four phases and envisages 225 km between Afghanistan and Iran. The construction of the first and second sections with a total length of 76 km were recently completed in Iran. Currently construction works are carried out on the third section from the border (with Iran) to Ghorian district, totaling 62 km.
