President Ghani chairs National Security Council Meeting

President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani presided over meeting of National Security Council Tuesday afternoon.

Ministers of Defense and Security sectors briefed the participants on security situation of the country particularly of Helmand, Nangarhar, Uruzgan, Farah, Kandahar, Ghor, Faryab, Badghes, and Kunduz provinces. The Council, assessing and evaluating the security threats, issued necessary instructions to the relevant entities for improving the security situation of the country.

The Council, being briefed by Implementation Commission of Peace Agreement with Hezb-I-Islami, reiterated that the contents of the agreement should be implemented. The Council instructed the Commission to make tireless efforts in this regard particularly in release of prisoners, re-integration, ceasefire, and creation of safe zones.

At the end, the Council evaluated the operations of the Security and Defense Sectors on implementation of winter campaign priorities as well as their four-year reinforcement plan. The Council, subsequent to evaluation, issued necessary directives to the relevant institutions for speeding up their measures for effective implementation of winter and four-year plans.
