President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani presided over the meeting of the National Security Council this morning in Arg.
In this meeting, Ministers of Defense and Security sector provided briefings on the general security situation in the country, especially in Helmand, Nangarhar, Uruzgan, Farah, Kandahar, Ghor, and Faryab provinces.
The National Security Council reviewed the security threats, commended the efforts and sacrifices of the National Defense and Security Forces in fighting the enemies of the country, and issued necessary and constructive directions on ways to remove the threats.
Underscoring the importance and necessity of reforms in the local police, the National Security Council directed Ministry of Interior to present the latest report on reforming the local police at the next week’s meeting.
Pointing out to the continued commitment of the government to realization of human rights values, implementation of constructive programs, improvement of the human rights situation in Afghanistan, implementation of effective policies to prevent recruitment of children in the ranks of the Defense and Security Forces, reduction of civilian casualties, prevention of torture, reforming the legal and judicial entities as well as considerable achievements of the government in the mentioned areas, the National Security Council reiterated the government’s dependability for cooperation with the International Criminal Court and other international Human Rights and humanitarian organizations.
