During the ceremony to celebrate Afghan Armed Forces Day at Ministry of Defense, President Ashraf Ghani said that it is the highest level of patriotism and act of valor to volunteer to serve in security and defense forces of Afghanistan.
President Ghani called on Taliban to honor the Afghan government’s unconditional offer for peace, and restrain from disrespect to the Afghan nation. He reiterated that government is ready to discuss on the negotiating table any legitimate grievances including prisoner release and removal from sanctions lists. He also said that Taliban’s current war in Afghanistan is stripped of legitimacy and purpose, and Afghan government’s offer has provided the best chance to the Taliban to embrace peace.
During the ceremony, President Ghani decreed promotion of 120 officers and rank and file within Afghan National Army, Police and National Directorate of Security. He also awarded the “Der Sha Pawzi Khedmat” medal to 120 officers and rank and file, and gave appreciation letters to 75 others. Besides, President Ghani awarded several families of the fallen and wounded soldiers apartments to honor their sacrifices.
The president thanked families of Afghan soldiers and officers. He ordered Afghan defense and security forces to show no mercy to those who attempt to disrupt peace in our communities and do harm to our infrastructure.
