President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani presided over a security meeting which was attended by Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Minister of National Defense and Chief of Army Staff, Monday morning, Presidential Palace.
The discussion revolved around the current situation of Afghanistan and creation of opportunities aimed at bolstering and strengthening the Defense and Security Forces.
Minister of Defense Abdullah Habibi and Army Chief of Staff Qadam Shah Shahim rendered their resignations, thanking the leadership of the National Unity Government for their support. They reaffirmed their commitment to serving the country.
President Ghani approved resignations of Minister of National Defense Gen. Abdullah Habibi and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Qadam Shah Shahim in order to promote accountability as a new chapter of ethical behavior in the political system of the country. President Ghani, commending their services, described them as honest sons of the country.
The President expressed that qualified individuals will be appointed in these positions, adding that experiences and capabilities of the outgoing Minister and Army Chief of Staff will be utilized in other areas.
