President Ashraf Ghani awarded the state medal of Ghazi Mir Masjidi Khan to Peter Prugel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kabul in a farewell ceremony held at the Presidential Palace today.
The decree reads that Mr. Peter Prugel has made tireless efforts to further strengthen friendly relationship, enhance mutual trust and deepen bilateral ties between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Federal Republic of Germany.
In the ceremony, the president expressed gratitude to the European Union for supporting the Afghan government by standing for values that empower women, ensure democracy, and enable peace in the true sense of the word.
“Europe shows that standing on values is not just rhetoric, but policy,” added the president while lauding the European Union for supporting peace efforts as well as regional connectivity and cooperation.
The president termed Afghan-German relations historic and said Germany has assisted Afghanistan to promote peace, reconstruction and values in a modern Afghanistan.
Mr. Peter Prugel expressed happiness over accomplishment of his mission in Afghanistan and wished he could come back with his family to a peaceful Afghanistan.
He assured President Ghani that the European Union, and Germany in particular, will continue to cooperate with Afghanistan in various fronts.
