President Ashraf Ghani met with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar this morning and discussed efforts to enhance bilateral ties, economic cooperation, and Afghanistan’s peace process.
President Ghani and his accompanying delegation were overwhelmingly welcomed by the Emir of Qatar at Amiri Diwan.
The Emir of Qatar lauded President Ghani’s tremendous efforts in the Afghan peace process and said, “We hope our joint efforts will help Afghanistan find peace and stability.”
His Highness Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani attached great importance to strengthening bilateral ties, expanding trade and economic cooperation, and exploring further opportunities to set the stage for joint works between the two countries.
President Ashraf Ghani expressed gratitude to the Emir and people of Qatar for their warm hospitality extended to the Afghan delegation as well as the negotiation delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
President Ghani articulated investment opportunities and potentials in Afghanistan particularly in the fields of natural gas, mining, and renewable energy and expressed Afghanistan’s willingness to work on those areas that can expand economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.
“We want our products to reach the markets of Qatar,” said the president.
The Emir of Qatar iterated that he would instruct the relevant authorities to work together with the Afghan side on further enhancing bilateral economic and political cooperation, particularly on appointing delegation and forming technical committees.
