President Ghani: Thoughts of Afghan intellectuals are sources of enlightenment for the current and coming generations

President Ashraf Ghani chaired a meeting this morning at the Presidential Palace to discuss preparations for the 580th birth anniversary of Amir Ali-Shir Nawayee to be held within upcoming months.

Mohammad Tahir Zuhair, Acting Minister of Information and Culture said that during the year 1400 Hijri Shamsi, Amir Ali Shir Nawayee’s tomb will be restored, adding that the restoration process of other intellectual and cultural personalities as well as historic relics, will begin in same year.

President Ashraf Ghani described Amir Ali Shir Nawayee a towering and renowned figure of the country and said the government of Afghanistan is willing to print and publish his literary works. He added that research should be conducted on Nawayee’s works and thoughts to illuminate his efforts for the current generation in the fields of literature, culture and civilization, and Islamic studies.
President Ghani underscored that perceptions, school of thoughts, and the messages and concepts Afghan historians and scholars on civilization and urban culture which are grounded on moderation and justice, need to be explained for the new generation to obtain a clear understanding of their history and culture.

President Ashraf Ghani said efforts should be stepped up to conduct studies on Herat, Afghanistan and archeological features during the Timuri dynasty and to collect, translate and publish historical works and manuscripts of the country.

He added that biographies, memoirs, and significant thoughts of Amir Ali Shir Nawayee and other renowned Afghan intellectuals should be published and shared with the young generation.
