Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the President-elect of the Islami Republic of Afghanistan met on Monday with the Chinese Minister of Human Resources & Social Security, Yin Weimin.
The bilateral meeting was held at the Presidential Palace, where Minister Weimin conveyed President Xi Jinping’s best wishes and warm congratulations to the President on taking office as the President-elect of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan
Mr. Yin Weimin said that China welcomes the forming of national unity government in Afghanistan and hopes for smooth transition, unity and stability of Afghanistan under the leadership of the new President.
He stressed that China highly values Sino-Afghan relations and the continuation of its partnership and friendship with Afghanistan, and added that his country fully respects Afghanistan’s independence, security and territorial integrity.
Chinese Minister of Human Resources pledged that his country would continue to provide grant assistance to Afghanistan in different areas, and added that it would also increase its investment in the country.
Mr. Weimin called terrorism a common threat to both the countries and stressed on a joint fight against it.
At this meeting, Chinese Minister of Human Resources and Social Security invited President Ghani to visit China in order to attend the fourth Istanbul Process Conference scheduled to be held in October this year in Tianjin city of that country.
President Ashraf Ghani thanked Minister Weimin for his attendance at the inauguration ceremony, and appreciated Chinese support and assistance with Afghanistan within the past years, asking for enhanced relations between the two countries.
The President also termed terrorism a common threat in the region and underscored that it is his government’s top priority to bring peace to Afghanistan.
