Press Release on Assassination of Dr. Tetsu Nakamura

Presidential Palace, Kabul: With utmost grief and sorrow, the enemies of a prosperous and stable Afghanistan continued their callous acts of terror and criminality and murdered Dr. Nakamura and his colleagues, today morning in Jalalabad province.

President Ashraf Ghani unequivocally condemned this act of barbarity and made a phone call to the ambassador of Japan in Kabul to convey his profound sympathies and condolence to the family and friends of Dr. Nakamura as well as the people and government of Japan, on behalf of the Afghan nation and government.

President Ghani lauded Dr. Nakamura’s tremendous efforts in different areas, particularly water management and agricultural development in Afghanistan and said, “The government of Afghanistan granted him the citizenship of Afghanistan in recognition of his endeavors for our country; people of Afghanistan will always remember his services. May his soul rest in peace.”

The president underlined that such acts of terror, barbarity and cruelty can never deter the determination of the Afghan people and their international partners to work for progress and prosperity in Afghanistan.

The president ordered the relevant authorities to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

He also offered his sympathies to the families of Dr. Nakamura’s colleagues, who lost their lives in the incident.
