President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani chaired the regular meeting of National Procurement Commission in ARG yesterday evening.
The Commission reviewed and approved 15 contracts from Ministries of National Defense, Interior, Education, Labor and Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled and Breshna Electricity Company worth five billion nine hundred and 20 million Afghanis.
The commission also approved contracts concerning construction of the 500-Kilowatt power transmission line from Aqina to Sheberghan and the 220 Kilowatt transmission line from Sheberghan to Mazar-e-Sharif as well as equipping and development of Andkhoy, Sheberghan and Mazar-e-Sharif power substations.
The commission reviewed and approved four contracts from the Ministry of Interior and seven contracts from the Ministry of Defense involving food supply, services as well as repair and maintenance for Police Chief Departments and Army Corps Headquarters in the provinces. Approximately AFS. 105 Million were saved in some contracts of the Ministry of Interior and about AFS. 62 Million in some contracts of the Ministry of National Defense compared to previous years.
President Ghani directed the Minister of Finance to review the current situation of procurement in the provinces in coordination with the Director General of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance and in cooperation with National Procurement Authority, and produce a logical and legal framework in compliance with the Public Procurement Law and Procedures.
The National Procurement Commission also discussed the methods and approaches to procurement processes and authorities across the country and urged skills and capacity development in this area.
The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Second Vice-President Mohammad Sarwar Danish, the Ministers for Finance and Justice, and the Deputy Minister of Economy.
